A hover fly visits the bug bane in our ornamental garden

Morning Observation:

This morning in Huntington at 7:10AM it’s currently 52 degrees under overcast skies. Winds are calm. Relative humidity is 99%, dewpoint 52, barometric pressure 30.02″. We picked up 0.24″ of rain overnight. Yesterday’s high was 65, and the overnight low was 52.

Forecast:

The cold front that moved through the region overnight bringing rain will clear the area today and be followed by high pressure. We’ll see cloudy skies with occasional showers this morning, then partly sunny skies with isolated showers this afternoon. Highs will be in the mid 50s with northwest winds 10 to 15 mph. Bug bane is an intoxicatingly fragrant flower that blooms this time of year in our ornamental garden. I’m not sure why it’s a “bane” to bugs, as it attracts all kinds of pollinators.
