One of the noisy robins in the ash tree in our front yard...

Morning Observation:

This morning in Huntington at 6:35AM it’s currently 31 degrees under overcast skies. Winds are calm. Relative humidity is 97%, dewpoint 30, barometric pressure 30.25″ and steady. We have about 3″ of snow at the stake. 24hr high was 40, low 31.

Not only does it feel like early spring out there this morning, but it smells and sounds like it too. We’ve got robins chirruping and a woodpecker hammering away on a power transformer up by the road (definite breeding behavior…) Bluejays are squawking away as well. There’s a very busy feel to the morning out there today…

Forecast:

A brief shot of high pressure will move through the area this morning before a more organized system moves in later in the day. We’ll see mostly cloudy skies in the morning, then overcast with a chance of rain in the afternoon. Highs will be around 48F (it’s not really feeling all that unseasonable anymore is it…) with winds from the SSE at 5-10 mph. Chance of rain is 60%. Tonight will be overcast with rain changing over to snow after midnight as colder air spills into the region. Lows will be around 32F with winds from the South at 5-10 mph. Chance of snow is 90%. Accumulations might range from 1-2″ in valley locations to 3-4″ in higher elevations.

Friday’s looking overcast with a chance of snow and rain in the morning, then partly cloudy. Highs will continue on the mild side – 46F – with winds from the WSW at 5-10 mph. Chance of snow is 20%. Friday night should be mostly cloudy with lows of 25F and winds from the SSW at 5-10 mph shifting to the West after midnight.

Saturday should be partly cloudy with a chance of snow. Highs will again be in the upper 30s to low 40s 43F with winds from the WNW at 5-10 mph. Chance of snow is 20%. Saturday night should be mostly cloudy with a chance of snow in the evening, then clear. Lows will drop to 19F with light winds.

There’s some discussion about a nor’easter moving up the coast Sunday, but most models are calling for it to be too far out to sea to affect us. We’ll have to wait and see…
