Stone steps emerge from the snow in our back garden. Hopefully these will get covered tomorrow...

Morning Observation:

This morning in Huntington at 6:30AM it’s currently 18 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. Winds are calm. Relative humidity is 82%, dewpoint 13, barometric pressure 30.08″ and rising. We have 3″ of snow on the ground. 24hr high was 36, low 17.

There is currently a Winter Weather Advisory in effect from 4 am to 7 PM EST Thursday.

Forecast:

High pressure will bring us a dry and seasonable day today. Expect partly cloudy skies with highs in the mid 30s and winds from the NNE at 5 mph. Tonight should be mostly cloudy in the evening, then overcast with a chance of snow as a complex set of low pressure systems begins to influence the arear. Lows will be around 25°F with winds from the WNW at 5-10 mph shifting to the NNE after midnight. Chance of snow is 70%.

Things should get interesting on Thursday as a potent storm currently over the Tennessee valley moves into the region. Expect overcast with snow in the morning and ice pellets or possibly rain in the afternoon. Highs will be around 34°F and breezy with winds from the ENE at 5-15 mph and gusting from 30-40mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Snow accumulations of 3″ is possible with higher totals along the east slopes of the southern Greens. Precipitation will continue into Thursday night with overcast skies and ice pellets/rain, possibly turning back to snow before it blows over. Lows will be around 25°F with light winds. Chance of precipitation is 60%.

Friday will bring us more snow as yet another storm, this time coming from the Great Lakes, moves into the region. Expect overcast skies with snow. Highs will again be on the edge of freezing – around 36°F – with light winds. Chance of snow is 70% with potential for highest accumulation to the north and west of us (think Dacks…). Friday night should be overcast with a chance of snow in the evening. Lows will be around 16°F with winds from the West at 10 mph. Chance of snow is 20%.
