So thrilled I came across your beautiful and informative website. Terrific photos.

I’ve been planning a 2-night camping and backcountry ski trip to Camel’s Hump (up the Monroe Trail) for March 23-25. I hiked it about 2 weeks ago and snowcover was ok. However, given the unusually warm weather, I’m concerned that we’re not going to have any snow on which to ski. Any observations for me?

    Many thanks,

    Chris

    • Hi Chris,
Glad you like the blog and photos. The snowpack at high elevations is still pretty decent. I’d guess it’s in the range of 2-2.5 feet or so in places (though it’s rotting quickly), with the deepest amounts on the eastern side of the ridge. With record highs forecast for today and then again this coming weekend, I wouldn’t necessarily count on much skiable snow by the 23rd. Certainly stream crossings will be a challenge. But hey, it’ll still be beautiful up there!

      Good luck!

      Cheers,
      John
