A very chilly robin feeding on mountain ash berries up off of Chute at Mad River Glen on Sunday. The temperature was around -4 at the time, and there were several robins eating and trying to keep warm.

Morning Observation:

This morning in Huntington at 6:35AM it’s currently 31 degrees and snowing lightly under overcast skies. Winds are calm. Relative humidity is 84%, dewpoint 27, barometric pressure 29.91″ and falling rapidly. We have 7.5″ of snow on the ground. 24hr high was (is) 31, low 25.

Forecast:

We’re going to see a messy mix of precipitation today and tonight as we read from another page of the book of “Can’t Catch a Break This Winter”. Low pressure is pulling in from the Great Lakes and will bring us overcast skies with a chance of snow this morning, then changing over to ice pellets/sleet in the afternoon. A southerly airflow will push the daytime highs up to around 46°F with winds from the SW at 5-10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Tonight we’ll see overcast skies with rain. Lows will drop to around 21°F with winds from the SSW at 5-10 mph gusting to 35 mph as high pressure moves in. Chance of rain is 70%. Road conditions could be especially dicey later today as sleet/rain/freezing rain hit cold road surfaces. Please be careful out there…

Wednesday should bring overcast skies with a chance of upslope snow in the morning, then mostly cloudy with a chance of snow. Highs will be around 30°F with winds from the WNW at 15-20 mph gusting to 35 mph. Chance of snow is 40%, but don’t count on much accumulation. Wednesday night should be partly cloudy with a chance of snow in the evening, then clearing. Lows will drop to around -4°F with winds from the North at 5-10 mph. Chance of snow is 20%.

Thursday should start out clear in the morning, then become partly cloudy with a chance of snow as a fast moving clipper system moves through. Highs will be around 21°F with light winds. Chance of snow is 20%. Thursday night’s looking overcast with a chance of snow. Lows will be around 16°F with winds from the South at 5-10 mph shifting to the NNW after midnight. Chance of snow 40% with accumulations up to 1″ possible.
