This morning in Huntington at 7:40AM it’s currently a rainy and muggy 72 degrees under overcast skies. Winds are calm. Relative humidity is 97%, dewpoint 72, barometric pressure 29.85” and steady. We picked up a much appreciated 0.86” of rain overnight. Yesterday’s high was 93, and the overnight low was 72. (When we went out to bed in our screenhouse by the brook last night at 11:00PM, it was 80 degrees…)
Aaaaaahhhhhh… Despite the muggy and warm start to the day, the rain is a harbinger of the much anticipated cold front which is poised just north and west of Vermont this morning. The front will cross our region later this morning accompanied by more showers. Following the frontal passage, much cooler and less humid weather will move in for the weekend. This will be a welcome break from the six-day heat wave we’ve been enduring. Dry and seasonable conditions will continue into early next week before the next best chance for showers comes towards the middle of next week.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely this morning before 11:00AM with a slight chance of showers until 1:00PM. It’ll start out cloudy through mid morning, then begin to gradually clear. Highs will be near 75 with a west wind 14 to 22 mph becoming northwesterly in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60% with new precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Tonight should be clear with a low around 46 and northwest winds 6 to 16 mph.
Saturday should be sunny with a high near 77 and northwest winds 3 to 8 mph.
Saturday night should be clear with a low around 53 and south winds 3 to 5 mph.
Sunday’s looking sunny with a high near 84 and southwest winds 5 to 10 mph.
Sunday night should be mostly clear with a low around 60 and south winds 3 to 6 mph.
Last year on this date we had a high of 79 and a low of 57.
Burlington averages for this date are a high of 81° and a low of 60°
The record low was 39° in 1962
The record high was 95° in 2010 (we had a high of 91).
Length of day: 15:23:24
Today will be 1:01 shorter than yesterday (thanks Chichi!)

I couldn’t quite get over the “emotion” this peony seemed to be displaying when I saw it. Seems it’s a bit bashful, or perhaps about to sneeze…
