Late afternoon light on fresh snow

Morning Observation:

This morning in Huntington at 6:50AM it’s currently 13 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. A few snowflakes are drifting down. Winds are calm. Relative humidity is 87%, dewpoint 10, barometric pressure 30.13” and rising slowly. We picked up a 0.25” dusting of snow in the past 24hrs and have 6” at the stake. Yesterday’s high was 23, and the overnight low was 2.

Surface high pressure building slowly eastward from the northern Great Lakes will bring an extended period of mainly dry weather through the remainder of this week and into the upcoming weekend.

A weak shortwave trough will deliver mostly cloudy skies and a 20% chance of snow showers this morning, then we should see partly sunny this afternoon. Highs will be around 19 with northwest winds 10 to 15 mph gusting up to 25 mph. Tonight should be mostly cloudy with lows around 5 above and northwest winds 10 to 15 mph.

Friday should be mostly cloudy in the morning, then become partly sunny. Highs will be in the lower 20s with northwest winds around 10 mph. Friday night should be partly cloudy with lows around 4 and light and variable winds.

Saturday’s looking partly sunny with highs in the lower 20s and light and variable winds. Saturday night should be partly cloudy with lows zero to 5 above.

As mentioned yesterday, the coastal storm that’s on tap for the weekend will stay well to our south and east.

Last year on this date we had a high of 24 and a low of -4. We had 10″ of snow at the stake.

Burlington averages for this date are highs of 27 and lows of 10.
The record high was 54°F in 2006 (we had a low of 58).
The record low was -15°F in 1971.

About Today’s Photo:

Going kind of minimalist on you all today. The late afternoon sunlight yesterday created subtle shadows and colors on the fresh snowfall in our front field. This about catches the mood.
