Morning Observation:

This morning in Huntington at 6:25AM it’s currently 22 degrees under overcast skies. Winds are calm. Relative humidity is 93%, dewpoint 20, barometric pressure 30.09″. We picked up 3.5″ of new snow in the past 24hrs and have 8.75″ on the ground. 24hr high was 23, low 21.

We’ll have a calm day today before the next weather maker pulls in tonight. Expect cloudy skies with highs in the lower 30s today with light and variable winds. A low pressure system and associated warm front will move into the region tonight brining rain showers with a chance of freezing rain until midnight, then rain showers after midnight. Lows will be in the lower 30s with south winds 10 to 15 mph, gusting up to 30 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Wednesday will bring a chance of drizzle in the morning, then showers in the afternoon. It will be much warmer with highs in the lower 50s and south winds 15 to 20 mph gusting up to 35 mph. Chance of rain is 80%. Showers will continue into Wednesday night with lows in the lower 30s and southwest winds 15 to 20 mph gusting up to 40 mph. Chance of rain is 90%.

  1. The spring feeder echoes the little bundle of energy perched upon it; the simplicity of its self-contained form belies the tension coiled inside. These little guys make winter a lttle more bearable with their busy-ness and aplomb, side-by-side. Thanks for the smile!

      Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I hadn’t quite made the connection between the bird and the spring, so thanks for making the link! Chickadees are my favorite bird. Their energy, gregariousness, and relative tameness are endearing. When I was a kid in high school, a revered teacher once took me to a place where he said they’d eat out of your hand. And indeed with a little pile of sunflower seeds and a few seconds of patience, one did land and grab a seed. Some 35 years later I can still feel the thrill. I try, when I fill the feeder, to repeat that feat, but so far, no takers!
